Professional 1-to-1 HGV & LGV Training – C1 (7.5t) C1+E (7.5t + Trailer), Class 1 (C+E – Artic) and Class 2 (C – Rigid)
At K & W and Daughters Driver Training Services, we deliver expert HGV driver training across Essex — helping you qualify quickly, safely, and confidently.
All our training is carried out 1-to-1 in modern vehicles with patient, highly experienced instructors.
Courses typically run from 3 to 6 days (around 18 hours) and include your off road menouvre/s (in house assessment) and DVSA practical test at the end. Weekend and evening sessions are available on request to fit around work or personal commitments.
Driver CPC mod 4 (Certificate of Professional Competence) with our in house CPC assessor.
If you plan to drive HGVs professionally, you’ll need a Driver CPC qualification, made up of four parts:
1. Theory tests – Part 1A & 1B
2. Case study mod 2 theory – Part 2
3. Off road menouvre/s 3a and practical driving test 3b – Part 3
4. CPC mod 4 – Part 4 – in house assessment
Only required if you’re driving commercially for hire or reward.
Our team can arrange everything — from booking your medical and theory tests to guiding you through your CPC and final driving test.

HGV & LGV Licence Categories
Category C1 (7.5 Ton) – Minimum Age 18
For vehicles weighing 3.5 to 7.5 tonnes (GVW). You may tow a trailer up to 750 kg.
Drivers who passed their car test before 1997 already have this entitlement.
Category C1+E (7.5 Ton with Trailer) – Minimum Age 18
Drive a 7.5-ton vehicle with trailer over 750 kg.
Category C (Rigid / Class 2) – Minimum Age 18
For large goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes up to 32 tonnes.
This is the most common HGV licence and is still a great stepping-stone to Class 1 (Artic).
Category C+E (Articulated / Class 1) – Minimum Age 18
For articulated or draw-bar vehicles with trailers over 750 kg.
Once passed, you can drive any type of large goods vehicle.
Car to Class 1 (Direct Access to C+E) – NEW
You no longer need to pass Class 2 (Rigid) before training for Class 1 Artic (C+E).
Our Car to Class 1 course lets you go straight from a car licence to a full articulated lorry licence, saving time and money.
This is now our most popular course, ideal for drivers wanting to enter the industry fast or upgrade their career opportunities without multiple stages of testing.
Training is still 1-to-1, using our modern articulated vehicles with patient instruction tailored to your experience level.
